How Ontario Probate Tax Works
Ontario's Estate Administration Tax (commonly called "probate fees") is calculated based on the total value of the deceased's assets located in Ontario at the date of death:
- $0 on the first $50,000 of estate value
- $15 per $1,000 (1.5%) on the value above $50,000
Small estates valued under $150,000 may qualify for a simplified probate process with reduced fees.
